Health checks
Whether it’s to welcome a new furry family member, assess a new ailment, or review an ongoing condition, I’ll support you with the right course of treatment for you and your pet, every step of the way.
- Kitten/puppy checks - I’m here for all the fun and chaos a new fur baby brings!
- Senior pet reviews - we all deserve to grow old gracefully and with dignity
- Is that a new limp, sore eye or itchy ear? Let’s get that checked out before it gets worse!
- Chronic conditions - let me get to know your pet and their long-term condition so I can treat it in the best way
What’s included in a health check?
A detailed review of history, a thorough clinical exam, advice on diet, weight, behaviour, and preventative care. Further diagnostic tests may be offered or advised and many we can do from your home!
Vaccinations
Cat, dog, and rabbit vaccinations are all available, including primary courses, restarts or boosters. Want to check if your pet already has immunity? Consider titre testing (blood test) instead (available for cats and dogs only).
- Cat, dog, and rabbit vaccinations available
- Includes a health check, parasite risk assessment, dental check, and weight advice
- Titre testing (blood test) available
Does my pet actually need a vaccination?
A blood test (titre test) can assess immunity against some diseases in cats and dogs only. Vaccination may be required following the titre test if immunity is insufficient. It is recommended to test annually and to check with your cattery/kennel if this test is sufficient for their biosecurity measures before proceeding.
Do I need to take my pet anywhere?
No – all vaccinations can be done at home!
Diagnostics
Some ailments need a little more than a hands-on clinical exam to diagnose. I offer blood, urine, and skin testing, and selected biopsies at home when needed.
- Blood, urine, and skin testing
- Biopsies when appropriate
- Results and next steps explained clearly
Test types depend on ailment, location, and pet’s temperament. I’ll guide you through what’s best.
Written prescriptions
Available with a visit, valid for up to 6 months, for ongoing preventative care or chronic conditions.
- For ongoing medical conditions or preventative care (flea/worm treatments)
End of life care
Saying goodbye is never easy. I provide gentle, supportive palliative care, guidance, and when the time is as right as it can be, a peaceful home euthanasia. You’ll never have to face this hard time alone.
- Palliative care, support and advice
- Peaceful home euthanasia
If I would like my pet to be cremated, do I need to make the arrangements?
No. To try to help reduce stress for you and your family at this sensitive time, all transport and aftercare is personally arranged and carried out by Paws at Home Vet Care. Your pet’s precious ashes (and any keepsakes requested) are returned directly to your door.
Surgical & emergency care
Whilst there are lots of ailments that can be treated at home, surgeries and hospitalisation are not one of those. I work closely with trusted (bricks and mortar) local vet practices for seamless care, so that you know your pets are in safe hands when more advanced facilities are needed.
- Support in organising pre-planned surgery at partner vet practices
- Emergency care available 24/7
What to do in an emergency
Due to the fact that we are a mobile only vet practice, if your pet has a life-threatening condition (for example: seizures, bleeding, collapse, struggling to breathe, trauma) you should take your pet to your nearest vet practice for urgent care. We can offer advice and help you over the phone if you are unsure. Outside of business hours, please call us and you will be redirected to Vets Now Peterborough, 32 Papyrus Road, Peterborough, PE4 5BH or call directly on 01733 601514.
